Hello,

i'm benoit and i come from north of france
i started to make a vawt type Darrieus with savonius in center
it's difficult to me speak english and dutch more....

here my project with no wind

Bild

dimensions:Darrieus: H / 1 METRE
D / 1.05 METRE with aluminium ep:1mm NACA0018 Profile
Savonius: H / 60cm D / 30cm with pvc pipe

after i'm going to show more details...

this windturbine is not connected yet with generator
i'm working on 1kw from hugh piggot

in the future i will make a C-Rotor and Lenz2 rotor in the same dimension

i'm waiting for wind to show video...

see you soon!

Hallo Benoit!

I don't know the exact calculation for the Darrieus, but for a C-Rotor windmill with the same dimensions you would need about 25m/s (about 90km/h) wind to get about 1kW electrical output. Strong winds like that are rare. If you want to have that output power at lower windspeeds the rotor should be much bigger.
The power the windmill generates increases with the 3rd power of the wind speed, so if you want to have this at half of the windspeed (about 12-13m/s) your windmill should be 8 times bigger (maybe 2m diameter and 2,4-2,5m high). With your actual dimensions a C-Rotor would generate about 125W (only 1/8 of the power you want to have).

All the values I gave you come from the C-Rotor calculation tool, they are not 100% exact but they give you a good estimation about size and power at different windspeeds. The measured values are from a C-Rotor with 0,5m diameter and 0,5m height, the rest is only mathematics. :D

We are looking forward to get more information (video, photos, data).

Hello Benoit,

nice Turbine.

But Think about the TSR.
Savonius =1 ; Darrieus ~ 3
then
Diamaeter Savinius = Diameter Darrieus /3
60 cm : 180 cm

Hello Benoit !

That would be an interessting test. Ed lenz himself said that his best Lenz 2 has around 41% efficiency.
I'm thinking about building a lenz and a c-rotor of same diameter too.
I'm looking forward to this test.

Rainer the diameter of Benoit's Darrieus is 1,05m
So the Savonius inside with 30cm diameter is well planed.
